This coffee is grown by the Araujo Reis family at the Salto farm and in Vietnam, and is IMPACT certified: a Sucafina responsible sourcing standard.
For more than a century, the Araujo Reis family has excelled in the culture of social and environmental coffee, in the heart of the Salto farm. La Fazenda Saldo is one of the first IMPACT certified and verified farms: a responsible sourcing standard. This certification allows the Araujo family to extend to the maximum the values already ingrained in the Fazenda for more than 100 years, combining social equity, environmental protection, management of the family farm, school for children, housing for seasonal workers and the many protocols put in place to recycle wastewater.
Fazenda Salto has belonged to the Araujo Reis family for generations. Today, the family is led by Dr. Fabio Araujo Reis, a retired doctor who lives full time on the farm.
Fabio's great-great-grandfather, a Doctor of Engineering, created a strong family legacy of holistic social and environmental responsibility in their coffee farms. When Fazenda Salto was purchased in the 1970s, they continued to focus on the social welfare of their workers and strong environmental protections on the farm.
For the Araujo Reis family, partnering with Sucafina and obtaining their IMPACT verification was a natural extension of their current focus on the social and environmental aspects of coffee production. IMPACT supports the family in preserving the natural ecosystem, creating a safe and dignified environment for employees, and ensuring a safe and ethical food system for consumers.
An important pillar of Fazenda Salto is its focus on educating the children of farm workers and those of the surrounding community. The Araujo Reis family emphasizes education, and many of them have doctorates and other high-level degrees. They founded a school on the farm about 50 years ago for the children of the workers. Today, this school has become a model school run by the state and educates the children of workers and the children of the surrounding community. In particular, the school has an internet access project that connects children to the world via the internet and teaches them valuable computer skills.
While Brazil has public health care, the Araujo Reis family works with employees to help them access the services they need. Since Dr. Fabio's brother is also a doctor, they work together to ensure employees and community members have access to medically appropriate care.
Dr. Fabio instilled his love for the land and coffee production in his 3 sons and 2 daughters, three of whom oversee the daily operations of the farm. Their children, Dr. Fabio's grandchildren, are now young adults and also work on the farm.
