This coffee comes from the "Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia" (FNC). It is a non-profit organization created in 1927 to defend the rights of coffee growers and improve their quality of life. The FNC represents more than 500,000 families active in coffee production in Colombia. It supports research and development in terms of quality, technical assistance in cultures as well as international promotion in order to position Colombian coffee as one of the best in the world. The FNC is able to supply Fairtrade, 4C, UTZ, RFA and Bio certified coffees. The share of certified coffee sales has been constantly evolving over the past 15 years, with almost 18,000 farms now holding one of these certifications.
Colombia produces exclusively Arabica coffee. Unlike other producing countries, harvests are made by hand to pick only ripe coffee cherries. Harvests take place over several days or even weeks. Producing regions in Colombia are mountainous regions between 800 and 2300 meters above sea level. The presence of volcanic soil, low temperatures (3 ° to 12 ° C) and so-called "shaded" crops are some of the attributes specific to coffee cultivation in Colombia. Colombian coffee is sweet, with a pronounced aroma and a balanced body. Its fruity acidity is also a typical feature of the region.
