In order to offer top quality coffee, Trottet Café has always been at the cutting edge of ecology and technology. In 1988, the company was one of the first to use an industrial catalyst, at its site in Geneva-Meyrin, to preserve and respect the environment. Investment in such a system meant sacrifices had to be made as well as significantly increasing the cost of coffee roasting. However, we are proud to have been one of the few to have made this choice. As such, the presence of the industrial catalyst during the coffee roasting process removes all pollutant emissions as well as all gas exhalations. As it has no impact on the environment, we are helping to protect the planet. Furthermore, Trottet Café has been practising waste separation for many years. Recycling helps to protect the environment.
Since 1995, Trottet Café has also been a pioneer. With the Caps Café (POD ESE 44mm), Trottet Café has been among the first to use fully biodegradable and natural packaging, while maintaining a high level of quality with an excellent espresso. As the sachet containing the Caps Café is mainly polyethylene, it can be burned without polluting the environment and can be thrown out with normal waste.
Trottet Café then launched Caps System in 2008. Caps System is a rigid and eco-friendly capsule, and is aluminium-free (aluminium is widely regarded as being very non eco-friendly). Caps System enabled the update of a range of more compact machines, where the capsule is automatically ejected after use. The Caps System capsule contains 7g of freshly ground coffee that is 100% natural with no additives. The capsule is made of biodegradable polypropylene, an eco-friendly material as it naturally decomposes together with the coffee ground. No matter how it is used, it has no impact on the environment. The biodegradability of the capsule is also certified by several institutes.
Trottet Café is one of the few companies to use just-in-time grinding, for both Caps Café and Caps System. The coffee is freshly ground and packaged in five seconds in the capsule. This capsule is then packaged under a controlled temperature and humidity – this is the best way to guarantee the flavour and freshness of the freshly roasted and ground coffee. This technology allows us to offer a top quality espresso.
Lastly, Trottet Café constantly works alongside its packaging suppliers, who are based in Switzerland, to find more eco-friendly solutions. For example, Trottet Café is currently working on a packaging that is 100% paper.
